Twitter is Terrible: The Cesspool of Hate and Toxicity

Twitter gets the 2020 Award For The Absolute Worst Social Media Platform Ever Invented. Let's discuss why Twitter is terrible for pretty much everyone everywhere.

Have You Visited The Cesspool Recently?

Every time I get on Twitter there is some lame political controversy where a bandwagon of people are hating on someone. Usually over some of the most ridiculously privileged and whiney things you could ever possibly imagine. If you’re a sane individual, good luck trying to persuade anyone that it’s a moronic issue to complain about. Try voicing a dissenting opinion and the Twitter mob arrives with the torches. In summary, Twitter is terrible.

Hell, we can even start at the top. Twitter is not just bad because of the mob-aspect of the people that use Twitter. It is also terrible because of the people who run Twitter itself. Not that long ago, Twitter sent me some biased, creepy email about a fake Russian conspiracy.

Even more recently, Twitter purged a tremendous amount of Cuban reporters right before the leader of Cuba’s speech. A speech that spoke on a very important issue that many reporters would have loved to report on, you know, if they weren’t banned.

Still not enough to convince you that Twitter is garbage from the top? Well, how about the fact that two weeks ago, Twitter updated their terms of service to explicitly allow pedophiles to discuss their attraction toward minors?

So they have shown support for communist dictatorships, normalizing pedophilia, and fake news. Lovely. I’m sure Jeffrey Epstein would love them if he had not been suicided.

Twitter is terrible from the top down. Even the middle-tier has little relevance there. Studies have shown time and time again that Twitter is horrible for your business.

It has the engagement rates of an app you’ve never heard of and the sales equivalent of Reddit (which, helpful hint, is also one of the worst). Most businesses would do 70x better on a platform like Facebook, Instagram, or Pinterest.

Which is arguably the most hilarious part. Not only is it toxic and lame, but you can’t even monetize this social media platform as well as the others.

Twitter is Terrible For Everyone

And for the average individual? Good luck with your sanity. Twitter is shockingly bad for your mental health [1] [2] [3]. If you want more hatred, a loss of self-esteem, depression, and more toxicity in your life; Twitter has you covered.

There is not a single person who uses Twitter frequently and is thinking “Wow, I feel so much more peaceful!

Even liberals who cry about Alex Jones (who already got banned from Twitter) think Twitter is terrible. If there ever was a truly bipartisan belief, it is this: we all hate Twitter.

Why does this happen? I think it’s because it is impossible to regulate the content you see on it. You can’t really “curate” your own piece of the social media like you can in Pinterest or Facebook. If something blows up, it is public. You’re in it whether or not you want to be. And everyone on the platform has a motive and an edge. No one really oversees or regulates anything unless it goes too far against their left-leaning beliefs. Even then, it takes a while.

Every single time I get on it, there is something that disgusts or depresses me. The way Twitter has transformed into such a negative energy is truly astounding. A small group of people constantly use it as an angry megaphone only to be heard by other angry megaphone douchebags. The average American doesn’t even listen to it anymore. The kids have gone to TikTok and Snapchat while the older generations are riding their curated feeds on Facebook.

But the blind toxicity of the Twitter mobs rage on. Unheard by many, but incessantly loud and obnoxious to the few who stay tuned in.

There’s a reason I only get on once a week and otherwise post my articles through Hootsuite. Keeps me much more level-headed.

For this reason, I nominate Twitter for the 2020 Award for the Absolute Worst Social Media Platform Ever Invented.

Which is why I gave up on it. And you should consider giving up on it too.
