The World’s Population Nearing 8 Billion
We are very close to hitting that next milestone.

World Population By Region
We are almost there.
As of the time of this writing, the Worldometer says we’re at 7,979,097,947. Of course, this article won’t be posted until tomorrow, so we’ll be even closer by then.
Here is the breakdown of those eight billion peoples:
I recommend looking at their other population graphs by region, as well. These kind of images are excellent at getting people to look at the world in a much broader, more macro sense. That is needed for us, so we understand the scope of the current world and where we are within it.
Given the growth rate, they expect us to hit ten billion in 2058. That’s within my expected lifetime; The thought of that is insane. Two billion more souls than now. When using that high of a number, it’s hard to even quantify in the mind.
But, as we know, that fully depends on if the population isn’t artificially reduced first.
To be determined, I suppose.

That’s pretty much a comedy now.
Try making a graph like the one you’ve shown but with animals instead, any other species.
Which other species than Human ever reaches single-handedly 8 billion stretching all over the world?
Without counting ants & other insects. They’re small anyway.
But even all similar-sized species as ours don’t reach 8 billion.
Just saying, but perhaps the lazy consumer’s method of just having to go to the supermarket to get food using worthless paper in exchange of real food without doing any particular effort to grow your own food & such lifestyles probably contribute to this massive number.
Would we be so many if we had to build our own houses & grow our food?
Literally: many Humans wouldn’t exist if they had to grow food or build even a basic housing themselves.
The problem is simple, money being a free-pass ticket for skipping actual effort to survive.
I agree with your underlying premise, but would instead put the blame at technology, rather than money. Without trying to sound too too much like Ted Kaczynski, it was the industrial revolution and the continual “progress” of technology that led to this level of population. Fiat, central-bank owned money in a credit-based economy was just yet another conduit for technology to rapidly grow. We will eventually hit unsustainable levels where technology no longer keeps up.
But it is accurate to say that without modern technology the population figure would go way down. If people had to do it themselves, we wouldn’t be anywhere near 8 billion. Reminds me of an article I was reading the other day [here: found it] that spoke about all the industrial corn in everything processed nowadays. It’s literally a feed for farm animals, like we use with cows to keep them alive and getting fatter. But now it is in nearly all of our own foods. Completely crazy, but that’s modernity for you.
