It’s alright to be uncertain in unsure times. With all the things happening, such as the radicalization of politics, an unnerving economy, and a turbulent moral atmosphere, it would be more problematic if you didn’t feel at least a little uneasy.
But don’t let it negatively affect you.
Because feeling afraid doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad thing.
In fact, it can be a great driving factor in your life choices.
Instead of living your life looking through the lens of where you’ll end up; focus on the direction.
In essence, it’s all about finding a path to take instead of figuring out the destination.
This path, your purpose, can be the one thing that changes you from fear to forward.
Through this method, you won’t see the destination as a concrete castle. Instead, it will look as it should, as shifting sands. The end result of anything in this life, whether it be politics or culture, is not set in stone.
It’s up to us to see where it goes.
This is how we can build up two important virtues in life: Strength and Courage.
Strength being:
the emotional or mental qualities necessary in dealing with situations or events that are distressing or difficult:
And Courage being:
the ability to do something that frightens one
Eventually, we all have to step back and realize what uncertainty is.
Uncertainty is just accepting the reality that we don’t get to pick what we experience. From the highs to the lows, life is an all-inclusive ride. You don’t get to skip the steep drops.
Learning to accept this fact is paramount to being free from the constant worry of “What If?”.
We can’t change everything we want in this life. But we can live a life true to ourselves. One with strength and courage in the face of uncertainty. Through this act, you can become a heck of a lot more at peace with the fear of an uncertain future.
If this is you, maybe I can provide a few good traits/articles to get you started. I’ve been in your shoes many times before. I encourage you to take control where you can, and not worry about it where you cannot.
The things that helped me over this hurdle included:
- Becoming intellectually independent
- Getting back control of my body (and thus my future) through physical fitness
- And researching philosophy
You can’t move forward with the weight of fear bogging you down. But it is possible to overcome it. Good luck, wherever life takes you.
