TERF: The Feminist Breaking Point

Ready for your weekly dose of WTF? The urban dictionary defines a TERF as a Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist. They are a group of feminists that claim that trans women aren’t really women, as biological determinism is only a fallacy when it used against them, not when they use it against others. They prefer to be called “gender critical feminists”.

In short, they’re feminists that don’t like that transgender men (transgender women? Shit, I don’t know) are taking over women’s spaces.

The terf war: gender critical feminism versus liberal feminism

This transgender issue has clearly caused a massive splinter in the feminist movement. Feminism broke up into two groups: one that is all about the transgender movement and TERFs.

We’ve passed third wave feminism. We’re now onto fourth wave feminism. So this splinter has started during the fourth wave.

Let’s get one piece out of the way: Women have a lot of issues in the current system. I don’t blame them for being radicalized. When you have a system that promotes using women like “plates”, destroys the family unit and encourages prostitution, it should be no surprise to anyone that they get radicalized. It’s a miracle we aren’t radicalizing more, honestly.

Women don’t have anywhere to go politically, either. Both the left and the right largely abandon them in pursuit of their own self-interests. Politics and politicians support women when it is good optics for them. They throw them aside when it’s not.

And I think these trends are showing in the growing divide of the fourth wave feminism. The TERFs vs the trans-inclusive groups. Women are sick of being left behind in every avenue. Especially ones that are supposed to “help” them. IE: Feminism.

Now, these groups don’t help women anymore. We put aside their needs for the better optics group. Transgenders are beating women in their own sports. They’re invading their personal spaces. They’re now the disadvantaged group that liberals use as an equality beating stick.

Feminists created an ideology where women were originally at the forefront. Now the fight is on to put them to the back in favor of the new disadvantaged demographic: the transgender groups.

Thus, the TERF was born. Out of it comes the future legacy of schisms in the feminists movement. As the ideology continues to refine itself, these schisms will only continue to grow and splinter into larger groups.

I may not agree with everything about feminism but I definitely agree that women should come first in women’s movements. That’s one idea I can get behind.

One thing is for sure: it’s a great distraction mechanism for the rest of us. If you’ve been on any popular feminism websites recently, you’d definitely see the absolute vitriol directed toward TERFs. Likewise, if you’ve visited any “gender critical” feminist groups, you’ve surely seen the disdain for transgenders.

During third wave feminism, their hatred was outward. They directed it at men, even innocent men. Under this new fourth wave feminism, it’s moving inward.
