We Must Save The Bird names From The Leftists
They are even coming for the birds now:
These American birds and dozens more will be renamed, to remove human monikers
Get ready to say goodbye to a lot of familiar bird names, like Anna’s Hummingbird, Gambel’s Quail, Lewis’s Woodpecker, Bewick’s Wren, Bullock’s Oriole, and more.
That’s because the American Ornithological Society has vowed to change the English names of all bird species currently named after people, along with any other bird names deemed offensive or exclusionary.
“Names have power and power can be for the good or it can be for the bad,” says Colleen Handel, the society’s president and a research wildlife biologist with the U.S. Geological Survey in Alaska. “We want these names to be powerful in a really good way.”
The move comes as part of a broader effort to diversify birding and make it more welcoming to people of all races and backgrounds.
This isn’t their first assault on the birds.
They came for the confederates first. Some people may remember the McCown’s Longspur bird, named after Confederate General John P. McCown. It’s now a boring “Thick-billed Longspur” after the BLM riots of the past few years.
Same goes for the oldsquaw, which was renamed to something else incredibly boring because it “offended Native Americans, women, and the elderly”.
Because we definitely need more ducks named “duck”.
We cannot have any fun or unique thing, anymore. This whole Enlightenment egalitarian softness is going to kill everything. If we don’t stop this, every bird is going to be the “grey grey-greyed bird” eventually.
Wouldn’t want to name some more colorfully than others, because that implies differences! Don’t you know birds are all the same you racist/sexist/bigot/birdophobe?
I, for one, still gleefully look out for the oldsquaws, the McCown’s Longspur, Bullock’s Oriole and so on. I won’t adopt their politically correct loser vernacular.
It’s an oldsquaw and Anna’s Hummingbird. Get over it.
