Evil Preaches Tolerance
Expanding on this quote, the Archbishop said:
We need to remember that tolerance is not a Christian virtue. Charity, justice, mercy, prudence, honesty — these are Christian virtues. And obviously, in a diverse community, tolerance is an important working principle. But it’s never an end itself. In fact, tolerating grave evil within a society is itself a form of serious evil. Likewise, democratic pluralism does not mean that Catholics should be quiet in public about serious moral issues because of some misguided sense of good manners. A healthy democracy requires vigorous moral debate to survive. Real pluralism demands that people of strong beliefs will advance their convictions in the public square — peacefully, legally and respectfully, but energetically and without embarrassment. Anything less is bad citizenship and a form of theft from the public conversation.

This is a religious tint, yes. But it applies to universal secular ethics, as well:

Tolerance is only a “virtue” to degenerate, virtueless leftists.
Tolerating evil is, in fact, evil. It is a lack of moral courage to confront and fight back against the evil.
Since I’m on a bender with quotes, let’s keep it going with a longer one from Alexander Solzhenitsyn during his Harvard Commencement Address:
A decline in courage may be the most striking feature that an outside observer notices in the West today. The Western world has lost its civic courage, both as a whole and separately, in each country, in each government, in each political party, and, of course, in the United Nations. Such a decline in courage is particularly noticeable among the ruling and intellectual elites, causing an impression of a loss of courage by the entire society. There are many courageous individuals, but they have no determining influence on public life.
Political and intellectual functionaries exhibit this depression, passivity, and perplexity in their actions and in their statements, and even more so in their self-serving rationales as to how realistic, reasonable, and intellectually and even morally justified it is to base state policies on weakness and cowardice. And the decline in courage, at times attaining what could be termed a lack of manhood, is ironically emphasized by occasional outbursts and inflexibility on the part of those same functionaries when dealing with weak governments and with countries that lack support, or with doomed currents which clearly cannot offer resistance. But they get tongue-tied and paralyzed when they deal with powerful governments and threatening forces, with aggressors and international terrorists.
Must one point out that from ancient times a decline in courage has been considered the first symptom of the end?
The loss of courage that he is mentioning here is directly correlated to the rise of tolerance. It takes courage to fight evil. It requires moral weakness to be tolerant. Being tolerant only requires someone saying that ‘they do not care’. It’s merely a weak, pathetic reflex of proudly stating that they don’t care about anything in their nation, culture, or country. That they don’t care what anyone does, they will be tolerant of it. It’s solely to make others happy; to make others like them. It’s a complete submission to human desire and worldliness. Compare that to fortitude. Fighting evil requires confrontation, difficult conversations, standing firm in the face of adversity, potential violence against you, seemingly universal hatred against you, and rigorous commitment to your beliefs. Along with never-ending research, reflection, and study to ensure that those beliefs you hold are consistently good. Courage is a constant, lifelong struggle. Tolerance is a backing down that only takes a single second.

The point is clear: Evil will always seek tolerance for whatever it desires. This tolerance will always become moral weakness. Once that point is reached, the evil will then do everything it can to silence and destroy any remaining good.
An example comes from recent news in Sweden:
‘I want to fix the debate’ Sweden: Gay Priest Refuses To Marry Heterosexual Couples, Asks Church To Tackle Homophobia
Openly homosexual priest Lars Gardfeldt of Carl Johan Parish in Gothenburg, Sweden has refused to officiate marriages of heterosexual couples. In order to do so, he has referred to an individual priest’s right not to marry a couple in case of conscientious objection. Notably, the Swedish church presently allows the individual priests to refuse to wed specific couples if they are considered to have an issue with the union. This is typically illustrated if the involved parties are intoxicated or are under the influence of any drugs, but could also include homosexuality which the individual clergy might condone.

While same-sex couples have been allowed to get married in the Church of Sweden since 2009, there still isn’t any requirement for priests to agree to perform such a union. The individual clergy is allowed to refuse, a right that several church politicians do not wish to remove.
This “pastor” wants to force all other pastors to marry homosexuals or be removed from the church. He also wants to never let in another pastor that does not ascribe to his personal beliefs.
The process timeline:
- They just wanted tolerance to get married.
- They just wanted tolerance to join the church.
- They just wanted tolerance to lead the church.
- They just want any pastor that is not exactly like them must be removed. Now they have power. And now they will use it to silence and destroy any remaining good.
All of their evil must not only be tolerated, but eventually all must be forced to partake in it. Or be forcibly removed. It’s the cycle of how degeneracy just gets worse in every declining nation, never better.
Degeneracy does not just stop. It keeps getting worse and worse, until even the degenerates of the past think it has gone too far. It happened in Rome, it happened in Weimar, and it will happen here.
